Joe Biden, the Democratic president-elect, began to appoint his cabinet members and in key positions, he appointed foreign policy experts and national security experts.

Democrat-elect Joe Biden began naming key cabinet members, nominating senior foreign policy specialists and national security specialists, in line with his commitment to the restoration of the global ties of the USA and its position as a global leader.

  • Antony Blinken has been announced as Biden’s choice for Secretary of State.
  • Linda Thomas-Greenfield will be Biden’s nominee for next U.S. Ambassador at the UN.
  • Klain was chosen to serve as chief of staff to determine the president’s agenda.

The new appointees also reflect the promise of Biden to build a government which reflects the diversity of the nation. Here are the latest important selections by Joe Biden for key cabinet roles.

#1. Secretary of State

Antony Blinken, a longtime confidante for Biden who served in the State Department as №2 and the Obama Administration as deputy national security adviser, has been announced as Biden’s choice for Secretary of State.

#2. National Security Adviser

Jake Sullivan also served as Vice President to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, while Biden served as Vice President to President Barack Obama as National Security Adviser.

#3. Homeland Security

A lawyer born in Cuba, if confirmed as Secretary of Homeland Security, he is the first Latin and the first immigrant to head the department.

Alejandro Mayorkas led the implementation of the “Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals Program” for so-called dreamers who were illegally taken as children in the USA as the lead of the Citizenship and Immigration Services under Obama.

The DACA drew Republican criticism and led to Republican opposition against Mayorkas in the Senate.

#4. Director of National Intelligence

Avril Haines, a deputy national security adviser under Obama and the first woman to previously serve as deputy director of the CIA, is Biden’s nominee for director of national intelligence.

Haines has held several positions at Columbia University since leaving the Obama administration in 2017.

#5. Ambassador to the United Nations

Linda Thomas-Greenfield is Biden’s nominee for the next United States ambassador to the United Nations.

She is a Black woman who, in the course of the Western African Ebola outbreak, served as Obama’s top diplomat of Africa from 2013 to 2017.

#6. Special Presidential Envoy for the Climate

Former U.S. Senator and Secretary of State John Kerry will serve as the “climate jar” in the Biden administration. Kerry helped negotiate the Paris climate deal that Biden wanted to rejoin.

#7. Treasury Secretary

The former federal chair, Janet Yellen (74 years) is Biden’s choice, according to two Democrat allies.

In the wake of Republican President Donald Trump’s replacement as central Bank’s chief in 2018, Yellen deepened the central bank’s focus on workers and inequality and was active in policy debates at the Brookings Institution.
